The home side made 155-8 but Notts were all out for 132 in their reply.
It means Notts must beat Yorkshire in Friday's final group game to stand any chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
"I don't like the bowler [versus] batsmen game but the batsmen have let us down twice - it's unacceptable," Adams told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"We played some pretty stupid shots early on and it's become pretty significant that the top order are not scoring runs and we are not getting off to [good] starts.
"When we have got off to [good] starts we have won games convincingly.
"We lost to Derby and we lost to Leicester and it looks like it is going to cost us.
"I don't like speaking like this but it's the truth and it's hugely disappointing."
If Notts beat Yorkshire at Trent Bridge they could sneak through as one of the two best third-placed teams from the three groups.
Mark Ealham said: "This is a big game for us and a packed house at Trent Bridge will give us the edge.
"Both sides know that they have to win to go through and our target is quite simply to win the game and reach the knockout stages.
"We have a very good record against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and we always back ourselves to win important games at home."
