Croft, who claimed five for six off 8.1 overs, also hailed the efforts of young batsmen Gareth Rees and Richard Grant.
He said: "The way those youngsters fought was inspiring. It's the first time they've really stood up and played a man's innings.
"It was challenging, powerful cricket and it was good to see."
Croft added: "I've played long enough to realise there are some games you can boss from start to finish, but this was a real trembler.
"We were almost dead and gone after we'd been bowled out for 139 in the first innings.
"I thought it was great to see the way Adam Shantry, Graham Gillespie and James Harris bowled in the first innings, especially Shantry because he's always been an unknown man.
"We haven't seen him around since the start of the season. He's come back in after a few injuries and bowled nicely and gave us a bit of a sniff, keeping them to 60 runs lead.
"Judgement of length was imperative as was playing with a straight bat.
"I thought Rees and Grant did that well and it was good to watch. They combated beautifully and we finished it off.
"It also goes to show that if you do the basics right in cricket, such as playing straight, occupying the crease and keeping your composure, then you do have a better chance.
"Credit also has to go to the seam bowlers - they set the game up for us."
