Seamer Liam Plunkett is struggling with a sore side ahead of Durham's opening Division One match, so Neil Killeen or Mark Davies could come into the side.
Steve Harmison's brother, Ben, and former New Zealand spinner Paul Wiseman are also named in a 13-man squad.
Surrey paceman Matt Nicholson is available again after missing the draw with Lancashire because of a virus.
The Australian could come into the attack at the Riverside at the expense of James Ormond or Chris Jordan.
