Essex captain Mark Pettini believes his side are already benefiting from their thorough pre-season preparations.
Pettini's men beat Northamptonshire in their opening County Championship game and followed it by beating Kent in the Friends Provident Trophy on Sunday.
He told BBC Essex: "A lot of hard work needed to be done but at the moment we seem to be reaping the rewards.
"The guys have responded really well and I think it's a great sign for the rest of the season."
The season has also started well for Pettini with the bat, having scored 80 against Northants and a quick-fire 119 in the Kent match.
"We've had two fantastic games, with a great performance in the four day game during the week," said the 24-year-old.
"Kent are a fantastic one day side and to win that convincingly was a really good victory for us and obviously it was a nice bonus for me to have scored a few runs."
