The home side took advantage of being asked to bat first, making 162-8 before Yorkshire struggled to 49 for five in 10 overs before rain stopped play.

Phil Mustard scored 49 off 37 balls while Dale Benkenstein hit 29 from 17 for the North Division leaders.

Steve Harmison took 2-7 from two overs to blunt Yorkshire's chase.

Yorkshire, whose top scorer was Jacques Rudolph on an unbeaten 22, will now have to win both their remaining group games to have any chance of reaching the last eight.

The visitors' best performers against Durham were bowler Richard Pyrah (3-32) and wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy who made five catches.
