Interview - Dimitri Mascarenhas

Mascarenhas added: "Hampshire have two important games over the weekend, so we'll see how they go."

The IPL semi-finals take place in Mumbai on 30 and 31 May, with the final on 1 June.

But Hampshire have an important Championship match against Kent, starting on 30 May, and need points after failing to record a win in four-day cricket from four starts.

So far, Mascarenhas has played in just one of the Rajasthan Royals' 11 matches after a short spell.

He was only available for selection during an 11-day period at the start of May.

On Wednesday, Mascarenhas skippered the Hampshire Hawks to a four wicket win against the Worcestershire Royals in the Friends Provident Trophy at the Rose Bowl.

Knockout stages

Chasing 202 to win, he scored an unbeaten half-century sharing a record seventh-wicket stand of 137 with Michael Brown.

Hampshire's win in the South West group keeps alive the Hawks' hopes of making the quarter finals.

They still need wins against Gloucestershire at Bristol on Sunday and against Glamorgan at the Rose Bowl on Bank Holiday Monday to have a chance of making the knockout stages.

Last year Hampshire lost the Friends Provident final against Durham at Lords.
