Mike Yardy struck 45 and Carl Hopkinson added 32 in the final three overs with Will Beer as Sussex posted 151-7.

In reply, Billy Godleman smashed seven fours and two sixes in 69 off 49 balls, sharing an opening 65 with Dan Housego.

Middlesex slipped to 114-4 but Ed Joyce shared an unbroken 39 with Dawid Malan to see them home with an over to spare as Sussex slipped to a seventh defeat.

Matt Prior hit two sixes in his quickfire 30, sharing 45 in four overs with Yardy before he skied one to long-on.

Yardy departed in the 15th over when he was caught at cover attempting to pull and it needed the late flurry to take Sussex past 150.

Middlesex began smoothly, before Housego was caught down the leg-side.

Tyrone Henderson smashed Beer over long-on for six, adding 36 in four overs with Godleman before he was bowled by the leg-spinner.

Beer then took his second wicket when Hopkinson took a fine catch running round from long-on to dismiss Godleman.

But skipper Joyce batted sensibly to guide his team to victory.
