England batsman Andrew Strauss struck his highest one-day score with a spectacular 163 for Middlesex in the FP Trophy against Surrey at The Oval.

The 31-year-old left-hander, who has not played one-day cricket for England since the 2007 World Cup, hit 23 fours and four sixes in his 163-ball innings.

Left out of the Sri Lanka winter tour, he made the Test trip to New Zealand where he struck 177 in the final Test.

His efforts propelled Middlesex to a formidable 315-6 from their 50 overs.
